In These Strange Times Here Are 5 Reasons Why You Should Consider Contracting/ Freelancing…!

With companies trying to survive and get back to pre-COVID times there will be a need for a flexible workforce or the opportunity for individuals to perhaps work for two different companies at the same time… Welcome to the New World of Work…

Due to the current work situation we find ourselves in, more and more companies may like to hire contractors/freelancers on a contract basis, rather than engaging them as full-time staff members… At the same time, many individuals would also like to have more flexible work options, either through choice or perhaps need. Working as a contractor/freelancer has many benefits such as increased flexibility and the opportunity to develop new skills.

Are you considering contracting/freelancing? To help decide whether it would work for you, here are five key benefits of contracting:

  • Pay conditions:
In specific fields, for example, IT contractors can be paid significantly more than permanent employees, in the same field – and in some cases two or three times as much. This increase can however be needed to cover the time that you may not be able to find contract work.
Contracting can also have the benefit of weekly/fortnightly income rather than monthly income, which means you could receive a more regular income for your work.
  • Flexible working:
Permanent jobs generally only offer workers between four to five weeks of annual leave each year.
In contrast, due to the flexible nature of contract work, contractors can benefit from extended time off, as well as more flexible holiday periods (e.g. short notice holidays at the end of a project). Also, it gives you the ability to work from anywhere in the world and whenever you want.
  • Diverse working environments:
Contract work is often project-based, so it would only last for a fixed period, and then the contractor is free to take on his next project. Due to this, you are eligible to work in different companies which opens up your chance for new opportunities by working in a dynamic environment with different cultures and styles.
This variety of experience can provide you with constant stimulation at work, as well as being a valuable experience for your future career.
  • Greater control over how you work:
Through contracting, you get to decide what kind of work or projects you want to take on. Additionally, it provides you with complete flexibility, whether you would like to be self-employed or work through an agency.
Work where you want, when you want, and with who you like. With contracting, your career could be just that simple.
  • COVID Re-boot:
In these times working from home and having perhaps reduced hours or no work at all, contracting allows an individual to do a few days here or there… or maybe sign up for part-time contract role allowing the individual to take control back and earn a living whilst allowing the companies to re-boot their operations with a smaller more focused team…
